It was 2018 and I was working as a State Sales Manager. This role took me all over the state especially if one of the 13 staff I looked after were on leave or sick for the day. I’d shoot out and cover their run. I was in Bendigo for two nights because I had a fair bit of work to do at one particular place.

I finished up in the afternoon and decided to go and check in to my accommodation. It was a strange old building. Super old. I had my things with me and stepped into this huge old foyer. As soon as I walked in, I looked up and there was a giant staircase. On the staircase was an apparition looking straight at me. It had the figure of a woman, but it was very wispy a see-through black kind of colour.

Suddenly it just shot off, around and around the stairs.

I followed it with my eyes all the way until it went into a room.

“Fucking hell, why does this weird shit always happen to me?” I thought. I was a little freaked out, to be honest who wouldn’t be?

I searched for my room number. Surprise, surprise: it was the room the apparition had gone into.

I opened the door and went inside. It was actually a really nice room. I turned on all the lights and sat there, thinking, How am I going to stay in this weird place?

I had a heap of work to do, so I got stuck into it. I sat in bed working on my laptop and watched a documentary on Ram Dass on Netflix on the telly.

It ended up getting really late. I was so tired I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. I turned off all the lights and went to bed.

A little while later, I opened my eyes and the kitchen light was on.

Okay, that’s weird.

I got up, turned the light off, and went back to bed.

Tried to sleep again. Something kept bugging me.

I opened my eyes and the light was back on.

Okay. I turned on all the lights in the place. “Fuck this shit,” I said to myself. I just kept working on my laptop.

I had something weird happen and ended up losing what I was working on, so I just redid it all eight hours straight. I didn’t get any sleep.

It got to 6am and I packed my things and left. I had another room booked elsewhere.

I worked another full day and moved to this new place for the night. Whilst I was there, I was messaging the owner saying it was a fantastic room and thank you for having me. I mentioned I’d had a weird experience the night before at the other place.

The host was super interested. We ended up chatting on the phone for half an hour. Turns out, he was some sort of filmmaker who spent his time between Bendigo and New York.

I told him my weird story, and he laughed.

“You stayed in the old nunnery accommodation,” he said. “It was turned into accommodation years ago.”

Strange but true.

I had a better night’s sleep at this place and was happy to head back to Melbourne the next day.
